Shub-e-Bara'at 15th Shabaan..
SHABAN AL-MUAZZAM
THE SEVENTH ISLAMIC CALENDAR MONTH
Shaban is the month of special blessings. In this month Allah Ta’ala has favoured the Ummah of His last Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) and has given them means to achieve Blessings, Salvation and Forgiveness. In this month there comes a special night called Lailatul Bara’at, the fazilat of which are given in a special article in this issue. There are many Hadiths of Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) in which he described the Virtue and Blessings of this month. Hazrat Abu Huraira has reported Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) saying, “Rajab is the month of Allah Ta’ala, Shaban is my month and Ramadan is the month of my Ummah. In Shaban sins are forgiven by Allah Ta’ala and in Ramadan my people are completely purified from sins.”
The Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) has said :“Shaban has superiority over other months as I have superiority over all the Prophets (Alaihis Salaam).” The Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) also said, “Between Rajab and Ramadan there is the blessed month of Shaban.People are not aware of it. The actions of men are presented to Allah Ta’ala in this month. Therefore I like to fast when my actions are presented to Allah Ta’ala.”
In another Hadith our beloved Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) has said :“When the blessed month of Shaban reaches you, it cleanses your spirit to receive the blessed month of Ramadan. Pure your intentions, surely the greatness of Shaban is like my greatness over all Prophets. Be mindful, Shaban is my month and anyone who keeps fast in it, my intercession will be wajib for him.”One should fast on the 13th 14th & 15th of Shaban, if not on all three then fast only on the 15th Shaban.
PRAYER FOR A DEATH WITH COMPLETE FAITH / IMAAN
Anyone who performs 2 rakats of Nafl on the Last Friday of Shaban between Maghrib and Isha will die with full faith and Imaan. In both rakats after Surah Fatiha one should read Ayatul Kursi once, Surah Ikhlas 10 times and Surah Falaq and Surah Naas once. The person who reads the prayer in this manner and if dies before the next Shaban, will do so with Imaan, InshaAllah. The performing of Salaatul Tasbih on this night is also virtuous.
DUA FOR SHAB-E-BARAAT
The Holy Prophet Mohammed (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) has said :“Whoever recites this Dua on this night, Almighty Allah will protect him from an ignominious and untimely death.” This dua is not found in most Panj Surahs or elsewhere, therefore we are printing this Dua in Arabic.
SHAB-E-BARAAT 15TH SHABAN THE NIGHT OF FREEDOM..SALVATION..ACQUITTAL..
AND ABUNDANT REWARDS
“Is there anyone to remember us? Is there anyone to have mercy on us? Is there anyone who knows our predicament?”..These are the words uttered by the souls of the dead outside the homes they left behind in the world. The souls visit homes on Fridays, Eid days, 10th Muharram and Shab-e-Baraat (15th Shaban), also known as Lailatul Baraat. This Hadith narrated by ibne Abbas signifies the importance of the Shab-e-Baraat as well as the offering of sawaab to the dead via fatiha through recitation of the Quran, Zikr, etc. Could we dare send the souls of our parents or relations away from our homes without offering them something each Thursday night or on other days mentioned above?
In another Hadith Hazrat Ayesha Siddiqa has stated that the Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) on Shab-e-Baraat went to Baqi Cemetery and prayed to Allah for forgiveness for men, women and martyrs. After his return from cemetery, he was engaged in Namaz and he was in the sajdah position for a long time. She listened attentively. She heard Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) praising the Lord and asking for forgiveness. The Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) has also stated that on Shab-e-Baraat from sunset onwards Allah announces from the skies, “Is there anyone seeking forgiveness whom I could forgive? Is there anyone in difficulties which I can relieve him of? Is there anyone…?” Allah goes on
making these announcements until the morning. (Ibne Majah)
The night of the 15th Shaban is called Lailatul Baraat which means the Night of Salvation, or Night of Freedom, or Night of Acquittal. Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) said:“Gabriel (Alaihis Salaam) came to me on the 15th of this month and said, “O,Prophet of Allah! Look towards the heavens!” I looked and said, “O Gabriel! What is this night?” He said, “This is a very blessed night. Allah Ta’ala opens 300 doors of mercy on this night, forgives all the Muslims, but not those who are hypocrites, polytheists, magicians, fortune-tellers, adulterers and drunkards. And those who spread mischief amongst Muslims, the usurers and those who disobey parents.” These people will not be forgiven unless they repent to Allah Ta’ala and seek forgiveness from him..
Hazrat Ayesha reported that Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “On this night Allah Ta’ala give details of the names of those who are to be born the coming year and those who will die in it.” The deeds of men are taken to Him and all the provisions of man descends in it. “ Hazrat Ayesha (Radi Allahu Tala Anhu) narrated in another Hadith that the Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) said, “Allah Ta’ala forgives men of my Ummah in abundance and without account on this night.” it is unanimously said that in this blessed night the whole of the Qur’an descended from Lauh-e-Mahfooz (Divine Tablet) to lower (worldy) heaven and gradually to our Prophet (Sallalaho Alaihi Wasallam) .
